Default [Mini-Review] LG Incite for AT&T

I purchased an LG Incite the day after it was released. It was a little mysterious because it was released before anyone had really seen or touched one before. There were no reviews on the net, no LG website, only specs on the AT&T website. Nonetheless, I was impressed with the featureset. It is a flashy, compact, straightforward WM6.1 touchscreen phone with a full set of mid-to-upper-range features. After a week with it, however, I returned it to the store. It was not an easy decision, however, and I would like to point out some pros and cons below:

PROS:

-Really nice design. The front is all black unlike most of the pictures that make it look grey. The back and sides are shiny "chrome." The screen is small relative to the whole frontal area, but still large at 3.0" diagonal. It is very clear and bright except in sunlight.
-Media. 3.5mm headphone jack and Windows Media Player Mobile make it quite capable. I synced it with Rhapsody AND Napster-to-go.
-Battery big enough to last well over a day. Can be charged by USB sync cable.
-GPS works with google maps, no special setup needed
-Side jog-dial is useful and great idea

CONS:

-Screen too small to be touch friendly. When typing in landscape, there is only enough room for one or two lines of text. Often on webpages, the touch keyboards cover the field you are trying to enter text for.
-Software support aweful. Activesync hasn't been updated for years. LG and AT&T aren't likely to release anything other than very critical updates, if that. This is no iPhone, Blackberry or Nokia.
-Wifi works, but you have to use special proxy program to use it. It's just too many steps and annoying.
-Netfront browser is not bad, but if you try to install Opera Mobile and make it the default browser, there are some software problems.
-Camera is 3.2MP, but has no flash and poor lens. The camera software has very few features. The video is very poor quality. It does have autofocus and it relatively quick, though.
-Lack of keys can mean it's difficult to use sometimes, but it may just take practice. The jog dial is useful, but only does up/down/enter. The stylus is not embedded in the phone, it is attached by a dongle.
-Not the best music phone with no dedicated media controls and constantly playing music can drain batter too quickly.
-Couldn't find a way to disable 3G (switch to EDGE) to save battery.

Overall, I would say it is one of the best mid-ranged WM full touchscreen phones available. It is fun to use and quite flashy. It is nothing overly special and the current $200 on-contract price after rebate is probably a little high, but not bad.

Compared to the Fuze (Touch Pro), it doesn't have as flashy an interface, lower screen resolution, and can be more difficult to enter text (no physical keyboard). However, it is smaller and cheaper by $100.

Nice little review. Did you know that if you use the keyboard in landscape, then press the gray down arrow in the bottom right, you'll get another 1-2 lines of text?
