Post T-Mobile HTC Touch Pro2

T-Mobile USA's last attempt at a Windows Mobile Professional device was the Wing which was released in May of 2007. That's a really long time ago, and even at that time it was based on the Herald device which was very obsolete at release time to begin with. Then in September, HTC released the TyTN II, which was the ultimate PDA phone at the time. It had everything!*Tilting screen, GPS, WiFi... the works!*Today, we finally see an update to the famed TyTN II, and a long-overdue upgrade to the Wing on T-Mobile. The HTC Touch Pro2 is scheduled to be available on almost every carrier in various flavors.*T-Mobile's version is the first to be officially released in the USA. Read on for the review!

Overall Rating:
http://pocketnow.com/images/rating/4half.jpg

The Good
  • Tilting screen for table-top display

  • Best slide-out keyboard ever

  • Gorgeous, big screen

  • The Bad
  • TouchFLO 3D software and menus are not keyboard accessible

  • Non-standard Bluetooth software may cause incompatibilities

  • Conference calling is limited to two people

Hello, I was wondering, aside from the larger tilting screen, bigger battery, bigger keyboard, conference dual speaker calling, is there anymore more reasons to get this phone? I feel like the internal hardware is pretty much the same thing as the original touch pro. There is also a lack of flash for the not updated camera. Processor/RAM/ROM are essentially the same, so performance would most likely be the same (which is still lacking...). Does the tmobile version have the necessary bandwidths for 3g this time?

Maybe I should hold out and wait for an htc device with a keyboard and Tegra.

But in the end, thanks for the review!

Yes, well if you're on T-Mobile, the 3G support in this Touch Pro2 is a very big reason to upgrade. If you have an original Touch Pro on T-Mobile, you're only getting EDGE speeds. If you have an original Touch Pro on some other network and are getting 3G internet already, then you probably have less reason to upgrade to the Touch Pro 2.

I would be curious to see a side-by-side comparison (either video or photo) between the Omnia II and Touch Pro 2 in sunlight conditions.

I use my devices a lot outside during the day, so this would be a big help. I also noticed that you commented negatively for screen visibility in sunlight in the reviews for both devices.

Thanks if you're able to help.

    couple questions:

    1) how did u upgrade google maps/live search? Google maps doesn't recognize my device and won't let me and i had to download the standard windows mobile 6 bing app

    2) in the new windows live search/bing app were you able to get the GPS to work?

    Thanks

Must be a first, a WM device picture comparison without the dreaded fruit phone! Awesome! BTW any chance you guys will review the Pharos 137, now $490 at Dell and Amazon.

Have T-Mobile enabled the FM Radio? This is one of the apps I use the most on my Touch Pro.

Oh look, I'm on page 2 & 3. lol. I definitely have to say that I was actually relieved to see that it wasn't all black or dull. The bronzy color is nice, and lends a warmth to an otherwise uncomfortably large phone. I do wish the camera would've been upgraded by now to at least a 5.0 MP. Overall, very solid though. Definitely a good direction from the last Touch Pro. I'd buy it

    Hi, I've got a question.
The HTC touch pro 2 (european version) has got unpleasant attribute - the screen, when ist open and tilt, is wobble.
Has the T-mobile htc touch pro 2 got this unpleasant attribute too?
    Thanks

Can't speak for Adam's TP2 but I've had a chance to play with one for a whole day and I didn't really get that wobble. Perhaps you should check your particular device and call customer service to see if they can replace it (they should). It isn't uncommon for some bad eggs to get mixed in with the bunch. Goodluck and let us know if you have any more questions.

The Benchmark tests don't measure internet access speed.

Yes, it has VGA video recording. The software/hardware/quality is the same as the European Touch Pro 2.

There is no FM Radio software included. I assume it might work the same way as the European Touch Pro2, where it can be enabled with that CAB hack. I'll have to try that later.

I used a CAB for Google maps that I had on my storage card, but I see what you mean with the www.google.com/gmm site CAB download not working. Something must be wrong with what Google is serving to the Touch Pro 2.

With Live Search after you launch it there will be a command in the Menu called "Client Update Available". Select that and it will install Bing Mobile.

Yes indeed! And it works very well.

However, the "Locate Me" feature which works via cell phone tower triangulation does not seem to work for me in my area when I am on a T-Mobile 3G network. If I'm on an EDGE network, it works fine! I imagine there must be something wrong with the tower location communication over the 3G side.

Mine is much closer to your second video in terms of screen wobble. Hopefully it isn't a factor of loosening over time.

Yeah, the bronze color is growing on me. I wish they made the TouchFLO 3D theme to match though. The dark blue clashes.
