Post AT&T HTC Pure

The AT&T HTC Pure was one of the first phones to be released with the new Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional operating system. The device was designed by HTC and is basically the same as their Diamond2, just with a different body style. It's another "slab" full touch-screen device with minimal hardware buttons and all touch input. Since AT&T never carried the original HTC Touch Diamond, the Diamond2 is a welcome addition to the AT&T line up. Read on to see whether you should choose the Pure as your next smartphone!

The Good
  • Windows Mobile 6.5 included

  • Browser supports Flash

  • Cool sparkle blue paint job

  • The Bad
  • Bigger than its Touch Diamond predecessor

  • No headphones included

  • Very few hardware navigation buttons

If you'd bought a current gen smartphone w/in the past two years, can't possibly see any reason to buy the Pure since it has the exact same specs as the diamond, pro hd and their 2nd gen variants. Moreso with the impending release of the Snapdragon devices.

Doesn't seem like a smart choice.

    Angry Re: AT&T HTC Pure

    Aloha,

I don't know, I just went to the AT&T store and checked out the Pure. And again I was really disappointed with a WM device. First I found it too small for the pretty screen.

I am a big WM fan, but since they haven't really produced anything good in my eyes, I am actually carrying an iPhone right now. I hate to say it, but to call the Pure even close to an iPhone killer is just ridiculous. I found the phone was slow, it was lagging on any screen and just not responsive enough to even keep up. I am not sure what they are doing, but it is surely disappointing. I mean I just went to the main screen. So you press the Windows button in the middle and then it goes to this main screen. When flicking up, it moved, but very slow and then it stopped after moving maybe an inch. I tried it many times, it is just not responsive enough. Then I got angry and tried many other screens and it was the same ... some even worse.

Then I tried the slider bar on the HTC start/main screen. When I used my finger, I had trouble moving the bar over. I had to use my finger nail to do it nicely and effectively.

I am so disappointed in this, this is like Windows Vista. Lots of promises and it was/is a real piece of Sh@#$$%^%^%^%!

Well, I have one more hope. I am going to the verizon store tomorrow and look at the pretty imagio. This is WM's last chance for a while. It better be better then the Pure which is not very difficult!

Sorry, but since I switched to an iphone, I guess, my expectations are too high for a WM device.

I'll let you know what I think of the Imagio.

I like the look of the unlocked HTC version a lot better -- looks like AT&T was going for the fugly effect.

I went into the AT&T store to take a look, fully prepared to shell out the non-contract price if I was impressed. Tried typing on the keyboard and got a lot of characters wrong; the screen itself seemed so tiny -- nothing about it screamed 'take me home' Too fussy for the novice, too boring for a nerd.

Great review -- very thorough -- underwhelming device though

Yeah they claim the screen is "bigger" than the original Touch Diamond. But it's only longer. And I'm wondering if it's even a bit narrower, which would make text smaller on a bigger screen... No thanks. In this day and age the screen needs to be bigger. ATT would do better selling a Touch HD than the Pure. The screen is massive and it's got a 3.5 jack. Booya.

I'm fine with the smaller screen, but I don't like that it's thicker and a bigger device than the original Touch Diamond. Where's the technological advancement??

Well, one thing that is nice about the Pure... it gets over 24 hours of straight use battery life.

Just had to come on to say that I agree with the "fugly" comment on the phone, but that my man Adam delivered, once again, a very thorough, precise, unbiased and overall excellent review. So yeah, Winmo 6.5 maybe, but not enough to choose over the older Touch Diamond. AT&T...WTF... Adam, still the coolest.

You can have it then It really doesn't compete well with devices currently coming to market... Enjoy your Pure Fugly
